Principal Software Engineer (.NET)

Hybrid Role | 3 days per week in the office | Cork City Centre

Barden is delighted to partner with a tech company in Cork in their search for a Principal Software Engineer to join their team. This person will work closely with engineering leadership to evolve legacy systems into modern, cloud-native architectures.

ABOUT THE ROLE (.NET | C#)

  • Leading the technical execution of large-scale platform modernisation initiatives
  • Writing production code and leading complex engineering work across the team
  • Decomposing legacy systems and introducing modern architectural patterns
  • Partnering with architecture, platform and product teams to define service boundaries and integration patterns
  • Establishing engineering standards, testing practices and design principles across the team
  • Leading technical design discussions and mentoring engineers at different experience levels

ABOUT YOU

  • Deep expertise with .NET / C# and modern engineering practices: 10+ years of hands-on experience
  • Active daily user of AI development tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code) – these are how you work, not tools you’ve tried once
  • Significant experience modernising legacy systems into modern architectures
  • Strong TypeScript / Angular experience, with the ability to own features end-to-end across the full stack
  • Strong experience designing and building distributed or service-oriented systems
  • Cloud-native development experience (Azure preferred)
  • Experience working across the full development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing
  • Strong database and performance optimisation experience
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence engineering standards across teams
